Success Story: Ty Muirhead

Ty Muirhead came to Carmel in 2000 to receive support services from our corporation’s staff. Ultimately, joining our services has promoted his drive and participation throughout the community. Through his supports, Ty has learned multiple new skills which have given him numerous opportunities for many new endeavors. Since 2000, Ty has made a number of exciting changes in his life. He used to live with a staff person and needed significant assistance to maintain his home, manage his money, meet new people and keep long lasting friendships. Today, Ty has been successfully living on his own for two years with minimal staff assistance and can now use his computer independently to manage his money and only meets with a staff person every two weeks to verify his account balance and bill pay. Ty also initiates meeting new people and has met many through his church and involvement in activities during the week and on various weekends.

Ty is just one person out of many that Carmel has successfully and supportively provided services for, making the greatest difference in his life, as well as others. He has gone from working in a sheltered workshop to successfully running his own lawn care business, which was started in 2004 with just a push mower and a leaf blower. Today, he has a riding lawn mower, several push mowers and works with five clients in the Fort Collins area.
