Carmel Community Living Corporation
Carmel began providing services to individuals with developmental disabilities on December 15, 1969 in an Intermediate Care Facility in Boulder, Colorado. Carmel House was one of the first such facilities in the state. This program served more than 200 people in the first 23 years of operation. Several of the people who came to Carmel during those first years are still with us.
In 1979, several residents of Carmel moved out into their own apartments in the community in an Adult Residential Services (ARS) program. Responding to our consumers’ needs for more independence as well as the national trend, we made the decision in 1990 to downsize our large facility. By July 1992, all 83 residents of Carmel House have moved into community residential settings.
Over the past few years, Carmel has expanded both geographically and in the types of services offered. Carmel currently serves nine Community Centered Boards (CCBs). We provide services to 24 counties that represent 81.3% of the total state population and currently serve more than 450 consumers. Corporate operations were restructured in July 1999 to include four regions as follows:
REGION OFFICE LOCATION
Northern Windsor
Central Boulder
Metro Denver
Southern Colorado Springs
The company is a full service provider. Twenty-four hour Comprehensive Residential Services are provided as well as Supported Living Services (SLS), Children’s Extensive Services (CES), and Children’s Habilitation Residential Services (CHRP). Vocational Services, provided through Progressive Job Solutions, include Community Integrated Employment (CIE) and work enclaves. Carmel also offers Day Program Services both in Community Participation and Supported Living. These are all custom designed services based on the individual’s needs.
Our valued staff of more than 240 associates is the backbone and strength behind the excellent reputation recognized within our industry.
We have enjoyed watching and participating in the triumphs and heartaches of the moves our consumers have made into community integration. We have particularly enjoyed the opportunity to work with other agencies. We look forward to many more years of cooperative efforts to provide the best possible services to the people who entrust their care to us.
