Emily graduated with a BA in psychology from Western Michigan University and, in 1985, with a MA from the University of Colorado.
Emily started as a counselor at Carmel House in 1980. She worked there for 5 years, and managed the Honors Floor for residents who were learning more advanced independent living skills. Her career at Carmel includes being a Program Coordinator and also a Host Home Provider. She was promoted to Human Resources Director in 1994. In this capacity, she oversees personnel policies and procedures, legal issues regarding human resources, health and benefits programs, as well as the directing of employee training.
A native of Michigan, Emily has traveled and taught in Japan, has worked in Ohio in a residential facility, and has experience working in a vocational agency. She has contributed for many years to community service through volunteering, a passion which she shares with her son, Tyler.
