Dennis Anipen - Operations Director
Dennis came to Boulder in 1976 to open a natural foods store on the Hill, which is where he met several Carmel residents and staff. When the store closed, his friends urged him to apply for a job at Carmel. He took a part-time aide position, thinking it would be temporary till he decided what he really wanted to do. It didn’t take long for him to realize that in Carmel, he had found what he wanted; “temporary” has stretched to 30 years.
At Carmel, he worked as a counselor and supervisor, and ran a camping program for several summers. During the transition from the House to the current community program, he was Director of Client Services. He has been Operations Director since 1993.
Dennis received a BA in Communications and an MA in Counseling from the University of Detroit, and an MBA from the University of Colorado – Denver.
He met his wife, Kathy, when she also worked at Carmel; their wedding was a Carmel family affair, with most of the residents in attendance. They’ve been married for 27 years and have a son, Matt. Dennis enjoys spending time with his family, walking the dog, biking, gardening and working on their 125 year-old home in south Denver.
