Carmel Community Living Corporation provides Residential, Day Program, Vocational, Supported Living and Children’s Extensive Services to people with developmental and other disabilities all along the Front Range of Colorado.
Carmel began providing services in 1969 when Carmel House in Boulder opened its doors to 14 people who moved out of state institutions. Within a year, it had grown to more than 60 and became a model for community facilities of its type. In 1991-1992, all of the residents moved into their own apartments or host homes, the facility closed, and Carmel Community Living Corporation was born. During the 23 years of its life, Carmel House served more than 200 people of all ages and abilities.
Many of the people who came to Carmel in those early days are still with us. Likewise, four of our key staff worked for years at Carmel House and made the transition to the new program. Together, they have more than 110 years’ experience with the Carmel organization.
Over the past fifteen years, Carmel has expanded in size and scope of services with 6 offices in 4 geographical regions, and serving more than 600 people.
Working Closely with Families
Our programs are highly regarded by those we serve, by their families, and by industry professionals.
Family involvement can be a crucial factor in the consumer’s overall development and happiness. We strive to keep guardians and family members informed about what’s going on with the consumers on an on-going basis, and to seek their input whenever we can.
Each region distributes their own newsletter on a regular basis which is mailed to families and those served in our programs.
In our Residential services, our Case Managers call family members at least once a month just to check in, and more often as needs arise. We conduct annual satisfaction surveys of the consumers in all of our programs, and their families, to make sure that they are happy with our services. Of course, we encourage family members to call us with questions or suggestions at any time.
Placing High Priority on Achievement
We place high priority on achieving individual dignity, independence, privacy and quality of life, including diversity of lifestyles and choices available to everyone. Carmel strives to integrate all personal and community resources available; family; medical, dental and behavioral professionals; local business resources; community facilities; religious affiliations; school systems; and governmental agencies. It is this collaboration, in partnership with Carmel’s creative and innovative services, which help people in our programs to achieve their goals.
Individual Choice and Family Preferences
Carmel’s staff is guided in the development of programs for living, learning and leisure by individual choices and family preferences. Positive and appropriate social interactions and behaviors are encouraged and supported to empower our consumers with the abilities and skills needed for successful community integration and maximum independence.
Priority is placed on safeguarding health and safety
We provide on-going assessments and training in safety skills. We also monitor and provide, or assist those served to access, care for medical, dental, social, behavioral, and psychological needs. Nurses at each Region Office oversee all aspects of health care and also provide training to our staff and providers in Medication Administration and other health-related concerns.
Mission: “To provide quality services and supports which empower individuals with cognitive, developmental, intellectual and other disabilities to achieve and to sustain a safe, meaningful, independent and dignified lifestyle.”
